so u wanna CHANGE your world?

Rest of your life: ACT ON and SPREAD the knowledge!!

1. How will you SPREAD your newfound knowledge?

First of all, you will write a research paper based on the interviews we will be conducting with entrepreneurs, investors, and experts.  We’ll compare the opinions and viewpoints of those based in the US, Ireland, and the UK.  High quality papers will be submitted to the Padilla Student Research Conference in April of 2009, and you will be able to put down on your resume that you wrote an original research paper under the direction of CNU faculty (me, Dr. Hall, or others as we can discuss).  In addition, very high quality papers may be submitted to appropriate academic journals.  An existing publication in an academic journal will help you immeasurably in applying for a wide variety of graduate programs after you leave CNU, and provide a neat talking point during any job interviews.  You will stand out from the crowd after this experience!

2. How will you ACT ON your new worldview?

This is up to you.  A major emphasis at CNU is service learning.  You can volunteer to help others, both in this country and abroad.  By taking your first (or second, etc.) trip overseas, you will begin to see the world differently.  Each time we travel, we return and examine our own country and circumstances in new ways.  This trip could be your first step in to the wider world outside!

3. How will my world change after the experience is over?

Your world may change in two ways.  First, if your perspective, abilities, and job prospects improve because of the trip, you will change your own reality for the better.  Second, if you are able to have a positive impact on others through your dedication to service learning and better understanding of how policies can promote development and reduce poverty, you may end up changing the world as well.  The unexamined life isn’t worth living—this experience will provide you with some important ways to examine your world and your place in it.
