BUSN495

(the Summer, 2008 class)

BUSN495 is the class associated with the overseas trip to Ireland and England that will take place in the summer of 2008.  You come to the airport, then travel with us to the four destinations (Galway and Dublin in Ireland; then we hit Bath and London in England).  We’ll visit some interesting sites, like the global headquarters of Wolsely, PLC, an important international company. We’ll meet entrepreneurs, investors, and experts on economic development in these countries.  We’ll see physical signs and relics of former industries and businesses that no longer exist.  We’ll have personal experiences that help us understand how creative destruction leads to economic development.

Some of the questions we will address in this class include:

Ø    Do Americans have different perspectives on the role of government in the economy compared to Europeans?  Do the Irish perspectives differ in turn from English?

Ø    Do such beliefs differ among investors and entrepreneurs?

Ø    Is it easier for entrepreneurs to raise capital in some countries than others?

Ø    What factors facilitate access to capital for entrepreneurs?

Here is the provisional syllabus for the class.
